Last week and this past Friday there has been a lot of Hollywood excitement in the upstate. George Clooney and Renee Zellweger were honored with Greenville's "Key to the City". There were people everywhere trying to get autographs. I have never seen so much shoving in all my days. It was nothing like I have ever seen or experienced in my entire life. Before they came out everyone was just standing around talking about the movie. I was standing with a prior student and her baby niece. I was wearing a red dress and the news people out of nowhere started filming me while I was putting on my lipstick. Then on camera they asked me if I was putting it on for George Clooney? I was so embarrassed I didn't know what to say. They really caught me way off guard. I said "No, it was because I couldn't go to the restroom because of the protective service people in the Westin hotel." Dumb answer right? But the truth nonetheless. Anyway, then they said to me George is watching right now What do you want to say to him?" Now again I was totally caught off guard and all I could think of to say was "Hey Buddy" like a dummy. I felt so stupid that that was all I could come up with. I really wanted to say "I would like to do a movie with you and I would study really hard to make sure I memorized all my lines" but the words just failed me at that moment in time.

The premiere for the movie "Leatherheads" was shown at different theatres around Greenville. It was such a simple, classy, and fun movie. I looked for myself in the two scenes I was in but of course I could never find myself(probably got edited out). Oh well maybe next time.

There was a red carpet walk for the extras at the Camelot theatre and a drawing for a chauffered limosine for four couples. The proceeds went to the Triune Mercy Center and the Greer Soup Kitchen.

From the premiere the party moved to The Davenport where 1920's music was played by a three piece band. Champagne was served and Hors d'oeuvres by local restaurants. It was great to actually experience what a taste of Hollywood was like with the red carpet walk and the elegant gowns.

I was really impressed with the fact that George is one of the few who saw the beauty and potential of the nostalgic upstate in the movie making business. I really hope he decides to do another movie here. He has allowed our sweet little state to gain some well deserved recognition and I am very proud of him for that. Hopefully others will follow suit. Have a nice day folks!
